Unfortunately for many of us we spend more time at work than we do at home. So lets have a look at the environment that the vast majority of us (statistically speaking) spend the majority of our life ingesting. I say ingesting because as we absorb all of the external influences, they actually have an effect on us physiologically. Look around at the concrete, hear the noise of inconsequential angered movement and inhale the conditioned air. What’s that... conditioned air?? Now, there is a scary thought. The air must be conditioned before we deem it fit to enter our bodies.
Now, stop for a moment and think of your grandmother.
1. Chances are she grew up on organic whole foods.
2. Chances are she drank at least two litres a day of water that came from the sky (not a sacred well blessed by three floating gnats that costs $20.00 per litre).
3. Chances are that she felt the benefits of walking for the joy of walking.
4. Chances are, while taking that morning walk she quite often spent a little time watching the sun rise each day.
Ok, so if we engage science to see why Granny’s generation was sooo much healthier than ours (if you don’t believe me just look up the stats!!) lets see what we get for just the first 2 points:
1. Organic whole foods contain the highest concentration of nutrients (and as a bonus they contain less calories). For example, a plain old cob of corn contains over 14000 organic compounds, chemical elements, minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, phytonutrients fibres etc. Can’t think of too many supplements that can make a claim like that. And what about the whole food signiatures.
2. Water: until we found out what fish did in it we used to drink it!! The average human body is mostly (60%) water and if have a look at a few different bits in particular… lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water, blood contains 95% water and the brain – approx 85% water. Given that many people go for years without drinking water (unless they are swallowing pain killers for a head ache which is ironically caused by the reaction our brain has to being dehydrated) it is not surprising to find that many mental conditions and diseases are occurring a great deal more than they used to. Yep, many mental conditions and diseases are linked to brain dehydration.
Sorry, but Granny wouldn’t be too happy if she saw what the majority of us forget to do to our bodies… look after and cherish them.
So, here’s the deal. What I have just shared with you is just the briefest of glimpses of my knowledge. The best way to make a massive life difference is to come with me for a few days. I take groups of less than ten to a little Island I all but grew up on.
Once on the island there are a few simple rules: No grog, no smokes and definitely no mobile phone or real world stressors. We spend a great deal of time learning as the ancients did – we sit around and we (mostly me) talk/debate. Learnings will include whole foods, ancient knowledge, but most importantly, you get to learn what the most important thing in your life is. We are up every morning for the sun rise and trust me when I say you will be blown away. The days are long but very rewarding. It isn’t all work though – we will be needing to eat fresh fish every day and hey they won’t catch themselves. You will also learn some really cool bushcraft skills. I will also spend a great deal of time re-introducing you to Mother Nature.
The shift I see in people over a few days blows me away every time. It is a truly spiritual experience.
